The 2017 HR People Magazine Awards and Gala which held at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, on the 15th of June was attended by HR professionals and business leaders from over 100 companies. The event was hosted by Damola, a leading comedian with Larry J as co-host. There were laughs, music, entertainment and strategic networking by attendees.
The finalists in the different award categories and the ultimate winners were impressive and of high calibre. We saw companies winning the same award as last year for the second time running and also, for the first time, companies winning more than one award. One of the highly coveted awards of the night, HR Champion, was received by the CEO of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Oscar Onyema, whose company also emerged winner of the award for Employer of Choice (under 1000 employees) for the second time. StanbicIBTC Bank emerged winner of the Outstanding Talent Management Award as well as the Best Employee Engagement Award, which had received 7 nominations. Lafarge received the Learning and Development Award while Oladapo Akinloye of LafargeHolcim was winner of the HR Manager Award. Airtel Nigeria was winner of the Best Recruitment Strategy Award with Unilever carting home the Work Life Harmony Award. C and I Leasing PLC (Outsourcing) was winner of the Service Provider Award and the night wrapped up Nigerian LNG’s emergence as winner of the Employer of Choice Awards for companies with over 1000 employees.
Despite the torrential rains, HR leaders and professionals turned out to grace the occasion which recorded more than 55 company HR Directors and Heads in attendance with many applauding how this effort helps to showcase success stories in HR while enabling the development of the HR profession in Nigeria.
The distinctiveness and success to date of the HR People Magazine Awards is testament to its independence, credibility and transparency of the awards process, as well as the hard work and support of readers, partners, sponsors and the team.
